I Heart Ikea

I have a deep love for Ikea. It's just such a great place, filled with opportunities to redecorate, re-do and re-vision your space. I, of course, always browse the fabric section but have never bought. Mostly, because it's typically upholstery weight and that it's sometimes a struggle to find someone to cut and tag your order.
Last time I was there, I got lucky! I found two fabrics in lighter weights that I love. The top fabric is slightly heavier than gauze and I just adore the numbers. And, the bottom one is a quilting weight and will be making an appearance in a quilt for sure! Thank you Ikea for helping to feed my addiction!!

Happy Little Pink Pile

When I was taking this photo, I titled it "Livin' on a Prayer" in my head. Because I'm half way there.
But I stopped working... time to do a little something different. And, I'm sleepy!

Hop Scotch Be Gosh!

The Hop Scotch is quilted!! You'd think with such simple quilting - boxes - it would have been done ages ago. But I let myself be distracted by spring. The weather, the flowers, the overall gorgeousness. (And I'd do it again!) I'm planning on a pink polka dot binding so I just need to start working on the bias tape for that. It's such a good feeling to have made some progress on this project.

Now, to think about a wedding gift quilt for my friend!

Photo Forgetful

This weekend, I was able to squeeze a bunch into Saturday and have a perfectly quiet and delightful day today! Yesterday some friends and I visited 3 wineries on the Lehigh Valley Wine Trail. They were having a celebration weekend. We visited Pinnacle Ridge, Vyncrest and Clover Hill. I picked the places based on location and potential food on site. Unfortunately, I failed to take a single photo when there!!

Instead, you get this one which shows the morning light and spring flowers from my morning walk this week. If only I could make the screen scratch and sniff.... of the air is so fragrant right now!
Today, I did a little quilting on the Hop Scotch Quilt. I'm pretty much done, only stopping because sitting on the hard chair just wasn't agreeing with my tired back anymore. I'm hoping, however, to finish that tonight and then be able to work on the bias tape!

As a side note, week 6 of my Unravelling class inspired a little more boldness in my makeup routine. I went and bought a red lipstick and I'm loving it! It's definitely a lot bolder than my normal lip gloss style but I think it's good. We'll see how I do wth it long term.

This week is going to be week 8 of Unravelling.... the last week. I'm sad just thinking about it! Wow, these two months have gone fast and been simply wonderful! I definitely have grown and became a better version of myself. Thank you Susannah and Unravellers!

Hope you've had a lovely weekend too...

Happiness Abounds

So many little exciting things going on in my life, it's hard to not grin like a fool sometimes.
  • I got this Moxie pattern from Amy. I can't wait to make a little dog! Yay!
  • I launched - today - a fan page for A Rosy Outlook over on Facebook. Oh come on, you know you want to be a fan!
  • Unravelling is coming to an end much too fast. We're in week 7 out of 8. (Oy! Already?) Really folks, this is a great experience. I'll definitely be taking the part two, Living in My World although most likely not until fall.
  • I have a little contest on the brain. It's forthcoming... check back soon.
  • I'm going on a winery tour this weekend with some friends. Oh how I love going to the wineries!
  • I think I'm officially sucked in by Twitter. I'm @arosyoutlook if you tweet. Yesterday I mentioned feeling all Martha Stewart and all of a sudden (like 3 minutes later) she was following me. Yikes and awesome all at once!
  • Umm, Glee? LOVE.
  • I have a girls weekend coming up. Can't wait to see my sorority sisters!! And, I'm carving out a wee bit of time with my best friend too. Fan-tab-ulous!
  • Still struggling with the decision.... should I put some of my tax return money towards a new sewing machine or a super duper camera. Oh the possibilities!
ETA: I forgot to tell you all. One of my best friends, a very talented sewer herself, started a blog. It's great! Check it out when you have a chance.

Expect an update on the quilt and some projects rattling around in my brain soooooon!

Vacation Day Wonders

Today was a hodge podge of sewing (quilt work, yay!), cooking (roasted asparagus with thyme, yum!), baking (chocolate cake for Administrative Professionals Day tomorrow), cleaning (windows cleaned inside and out), errands (Oh, Trader Joe's I love you) and laundry (one of the simple joys... clean sheets). Oh, and some play time for Rosy with her friend Truman. It was simply lovely. I adore random days off in the middle of the week!!

Poor, Sad Hop Scotch Quilt... I Do Love You!

I've been so busy enjoying spring, working my tail off and spending time out and about with friends that I haven't been a crafting demon lately. I have my Hop Scotch bedroom quilt languishing on my kitchen table. It talks to me when I walk past. Yeah, I know that sounds silly. But it really does call out for quilting. "Jump to it," it says.
Oh quilt, I hear you! I promise to spend some time with you soon. I know it seems as though I don't love you anymore but that is simply not the case. I think about you but there just are not enough hours in the day....

We're Going A'huntin....

Rosy and I went to a Doggie Easter Egg Hunt for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society this weekend. It was a wonderful event in the East Falls area of Philadelphia. It was such a good time! The eggs were filled with treats so you know the dogs were happy little hunters.
I'm so glad we were able to attend! What were you up to this weekend?

Happy Little Additions

In my excitement for Dyngus Day and the arboretum, I failed to tell you about the sale I partook of.... oh, how I love Fabricworm. I got these lovely little 1/2 yards last week when they were clearing out the store for their big move. (Excuse the blurry iPhone photo....)
Yeah, the word "sale" gets me every time. But these are great additions to my stash. I particularly love the second one from the bottom for the 70's vibe it gives. Don't you just love new fabric????

Dyngus Day!

Happy Dyngus Day friends! Go hit the person you like with pussy willows or sprinkle them with water. (Or maybe not if they aren't versed in Dyngus Day traditions...)

Morris Makes me Wax Poetic

Talk about tickling the senses. I spent this afternoon at Morris Arboretum. I easily get overwhelmed by the exquisiteness of that place. Walking along, the soil squished gently under my feet, a little "welcome to nature" greeting. Everything is so green and lush, a homage to the wet, wet winter and spring we have had. Trees burst with blossoms, a chorus of beauty surrounding me.
I found my favorite spot, on the bench inscribed with "Rest and Be Thankful" under the weeping Katsura tree. The ice tea and sandwich in my purse called for lunch time. I sat with my shoes off and my legs crossed, savoring the light breeze on my back, mesmerized by the warmth of the mid-afternoon sun and the swaying branches of the tree that cocooned me. Closing my eyes, I inhaled the fresh air and let the sounds of the babbling creek, the joyful giggles of children and the chirping of birds wash over me.
Spring bursts forth, tree upon tree awakening from hibernation to greet this season of renewal. All of my senses embrace this dawn like a mother embracing her newborn. I'm grateful to be overcome by this small slice of heaven.

The One Where Wisdom Smacks Me in the Face

I was doing some writing for my Unravelling course today and this little blurb jumped out at me.

Savor life.
Explore the possibilities.
Take chances.
Remember everything can be an adventure if you let it.
Embrace change and uncertainty.
Smile when you want to cry.
Try something new.
Be good to yourself.

Wow, this is so right for me and something I need to live by!! Exactly the right nugget of wisdom for my day.
