My Buffalo Vacation

Vacation was lovely! Oh, it was so nice to be away and not have any responsibilities. And I spent a bunch of quality time with my mom, which is always nice. Rosy enjoyed the backyard. I ate all of the good Buffalo foods - Anderson's roast beef and ice cream, Ted's hot dogs, Mississippi Mudd's, and chicken wings. I visited with friends, new and old. I went to the driving range and Tifft Farm.
Now, I'm back in Philly and to work today.

Flea Market Finds....

Today, I went back to the flea market. And with bright sunshine filled skies, there were a good number of vendors. We perused and meandered. We looked at a lot of different items, trinkets and objects. And we came across these little treasures.
I got this chalkboard for my kitchen. I can't wait to hang it up and write something kitchen friendly on it. I might even have to invest in color chalk!!

And this lovely little piece isn't ready to accompany me home just yet. I bought it to put in my office/craft space. It will replace a filing cabinet and plastic set of drawers. The bottom drawer needs to be fixed. And the handles on the top drawers need to be replaced. But the wood is in excellent condition and the finish is very similar in color to my desk. My mom is going to get the drawer fixed and it will probably be headed to Philly with me in September, when I come home for a wedding.
Another successful flea market adventure! Check out more at Sophie's.

Seeing Red

Today was all about red. As in seeing red things. My mom and I went to the farmer's market this morning and got lots of yummy goodness: cinnamon raisin bread, strawberries, tomatoes, mozzarella, and flowers. I think we are having the rather odd dinner of caprese salad followed by french toast. On the way home, we saw this building. For those that don't know, carrousels were made in North Tonawanda, NY for a long time. This is part of the museum I believe.
Then when out and about today, I saw this red door. Everything about this door speaks to me: the columns, the light, the screen door, the crack in the front step. It's all lovely and pretty.
And then, this grist mill in Williamsville.... I was a day early in meeting someone there because I wasn't thinking clearly. And since I was there, I figured sneaking in a few shots was a worthy venture. Oh, how I love all of the red enveloping my day!
What color has been speaking to you today?

Moving More Slowly...

Loving life. Vacationing. Relaxing.
Visiting my past.
Going to the driving range.
Sitting still.
Admiring the sunset.
Throwing the squeaky ball for Rosy in the backyard.
Seeing old friends. And new ones.

All of it brings a great smile to my face.

Flea Market Success

Today, my mom and I went to the flea market not far from her house. It was a rainy, yucky morning so our expectations were low. There were not a lot of vendors there. However, we both managed success!! I bought this lovely black glass bead necklace for $5. I foresee a pretty heavy rotation for this piece, as it is really pretty and so versatile.
I also found these two crates from soda pop. Since my living room is yellow and red, these will fit in perfectly!! At $5 each, I had to get them both. I can't wait to try them out.
My mom got a bench to use as a coffee table in her living room. It looks great!!

And, my mom found this lovely little piece in the basement. It was my stepfather's mother's camera, an oldddd Kodak. I am planning on using it as a display piece. It's just a matter of where it will fit.
Such lovely finds! I'm so glad we didn't let the rain deter us from the outing!

A Little Road Trip

Down by the River
Originally uploaded by a.rosy.outlook
Rosy and I headed out yesterday on a road trip to my mom's in Buffalo. It's about a 7 hour drive and let me tell you, little dog is so well behaved in the car. The day was sunny and warm, the clouds a delightful fluffiness and the iPod music singably (yes, that is a new word for you all!) wonderful. After resting for a little bit, my mom and I went down to the Niagara River for dinner. Which was, of course, followed by a walk. It was perfect, not too warm that everyone was out but warm enough that there was quality people watching. Unfortunately, dogs are not welcome so poor Rosy had to stay home and guard my mom's house.

Today, I'm off to a conference for a few days but Rosy is staying to keep my mom company. I believe that PetSmart is in their future....

Happy Mail

Have you ever noticed how Amy has the best stuff in her shop? I caved a couple of weeks ago and bought a little bit of fabric and trim. I mean, the stuff is so darn cute, the international shipping is totally worth it. Plus I kind of adore Amy. So it's a win/win. Now, for the perfect project for these little bits of goodness.....

Yoga Love

New challenges are around the corner. Which is always good, right? Tuesday is the start of the 21.5.800 project. Twenty-one days total. Practicing yoga five days a week and writing 800 words a day. That's a lot of writing. But good, healthy stuff. I think I have that many words in me easily. I just need to get 'em out. (And hope the conference I'm attending in there gives me enough of a break to write a bit.)

And starting Saturday, I begin 30 days of yoga. Ooooh, how complimentary!! Daily practice. Moral support. I'm really hoping these two programs will help me recommit to my yoga practice. It has been rather sporadic lately. And I need to do more of it. Fingers crossed.

Random Assortment of Thoughts for a Thursday

Things dancing around my brain....
  • I need to make a table runner with some leftover batting. And perhaps a house block for my friend since I keep imagining it in my head. And, of course, a Moxie Doxy from Amy's pattern. But then that dress pattern is calling my name.
  • I get to go to Buffalo soon for vacation. Yep, Buffalo, NY and vacation in the same sentence. Can't wait!!
  • How much I love my new camera, a Canon Rebel, named Estelle. Thanks to Becky for her camera selection advice. Look, Rosy sticking out her tongue at the camera.

  • I really love Glee. And what with every other show I like being canceled, I'm glad it will be back next year.
  • Book club is this coming weekend. We read Every Last One by Anna Quindlen. It was so good and tissue worthy. I'm hosting and thus in charge of questions. You know, there were no book club questions that popped up when I googled. How is that possible?
  • Work is busy even without the students. It makes the day go faster.... love it.
  • Oh, the Grand Prix of the Devon Horse Show is tonight. Should be a fun outing. And Estelle's looking forward to going as well.

The Memorial Day Edition Before and After

I figured this weekend was a good time to take on a project I came upon lately. I found this vase outside my building, left for a couple of days. I thought it had some potential and knew a little spray paint was in order. On Saturday, after an Ikea outing, I stopped by Home Depot. (Seriously happy place for me... have you smelled the wood aisle?) and got some red paint. Now this little lovely piece is even more lovely. I'm thinking it would be a great repository for shorter knitting needles. What do you think?
