Living a Good Life

Wow! It's been a while huh? Life has been a bit busy since I got back from DC. First off, I've been out and about in Philly. I went to the U2 concert (awesome!), spent some times with friends and just relaxed with the man friend.
U2 Concert. We had general admission on the floor and wow, great view!

Then, I was off to facilitate at a sorority's leadership conference. I had a great time in Ohio and enjoyed meeting the young women. The photo below was the night sky on the first night. Sadly, the weird orange tinge of the night sky doesn't quite show up here. And yes, that is the Walmart sign in the foreground. (And I'm so not a Walmart fan.)
I have one more trip this summer. And then hopefully some good crafting before the academic semester begins again.....

I finished my summer stitching project today. To be fair, the stitching has been done for a while. I just needed to tack back the extra fabric around the sides and add some ribbon. You'd think that wouldn't be a big task but alas, with lots going on in life lately, it was bigger than imagined. But now it is done and placed on the wall in my bedroom. It shall serve as a good reminder about the power of dreams - those that happen when awake as well as those that make an appearance in my sleep. I'm happy with that!

No Melting (Luckily)

Earlier this week, I visited hot and humid DC with the man friend. It was a lovely little vacation. We visited a number of different places, had dinner with my aunt and just generally relaxed.
Can you tell we're dying from the 97 degree day here?

We went to the National Museum of the American Indian. I've never been before and wow, it gives you a bunch of information about a number of different tribes all over the Americas. I'm partial to information on the Iroquois, being from New York originally. (There was not nearly enough there on the Iroquois for me.) It's a great museum and I think I could totally go back and spend more time there.

And we visited the Spy Museum, another place I've never visited. That was all sorts of information on spying that I never knew. And I managed to keep my cover throughout. Call me Carol Liu and know my vacation in Russia was lovely.
I love looking out from the Lincoln Memorial. The view and the sense of history - both Lincoln and MLK - never gets old for me.

We visited the monuments on Monday night. It was still humid but a quick little rain storm helped to cool things off a bit. It's always good to do the walk from the metro station to the Lincoln Memorial and back!
I'm so glad we were able to get away for a couple of days. Perfectly lovely! I'm blessed.

Linen Dreams

A little bit of summer stitching on linen. This bit will hopefully remain in this hoop with some green ribbon added and will make an appearance on my bedroom wall. Gotta finish it up soon!

What are you dreaming about?

Classic Americana

Oh, the 4th of July! I celebrated Independence Day in classic American style with a parade, a picnic and fireworks.
The parade featured a very tall Uncle Sam's cousin, bagpipers (two groups!), Scouts and lots of other bands. Afterwards, we went back to the man friend's house for burgers, hot dogs, and potato salad. The BBQ was topped off by a lovely sunset. And then we were on to the fireworks.

And the photo below? Philly's own Glenn "Hurricane" Schwartz. I'm posting this photo in honor of Maria and Eric's on-going search for newscasters! When asked when the humidity would break, he simply shrugged.... that doesn't bode well Philadelphia.

The other night, I laid out all of my fabrics for the Piano Keys quilt. Everything was on my counter, sorted by dominate green or pink.
And slowly I started laying everything out on the floor of the kitchen. Turns out I was one square short of a quilt top. I cut another piece. I rearranged a bit, making sure to get colors balanced. And I ended up with this. I like it a lot. Now we're on to sewing!
What crafting are you up to?

Sometimes You Gotta Get a Bit Corny!

I went back to Johnson's Country Farm yesterday with my friend Katie. 'Tis the season for blueberries, corn and peaches. It was lovely picking weather - sunny, lovely blue sky and low humidity. Days like that on a Philadelphia summer must be taken advantage of!
I played in the corn field. After the goofing around and photo taking, I picked four ears. I had some tonight for dinner and oh, how fresh it was.
We also picked blueberries. They said there weren't a lot of ripe berries on the bushes but I beg to differ. I got a bunch of them and already mixed them with some strawberries for a little 4th of July blue and red shortbread action tomorrow. There are also a few left that I might freeze for another time!
Afterwards, we wandered around the shop on the farm grounds. I snapped a bunch of shots of some of the fruits. They are simply beautifully displayed!

I also finished day 1 and 2 of the photo challenge. Day 1 is a self portrait. I took a bunch of shots. This was the one I liked the best I think.
After taking it, I realized I had not a stitch of makeup on. And I feel pretty darn good about that!

And for my American peers, I hope you are having a Happy Independence Day weekend!
