Photography Challenge

Photo of the Indianapolis sky, June 24th first thing in the morning

I think for the month of July I'm going to try to take this photography challenge. Aside from the days I'm at a conference, I think I will be able to shoot each day. Some of them I know I'll have a lot of fun with, some will be a challenge and some I probably will have to reshoot, as I won't be fully happy with the outcome. But I think it is a good challenge for me and I know summer is the best time for me to focus on really completing it.

Tickling the (Fabric) Ivories

I started cutting out 8x4 inch blocks last night for my next quilt. The plan is to have it be of similar style to the Piano Keys quilt. I didn't cut much of the fabric yet so I am hoping for a few more nights of cutting this week and maybe some actually sewing over the weekend. Plus, I have to go digging for some of the fabrics, which are in the bottom of my fabric basket. It's inspiring to have a new project in the works though!

As for an old project, my pillow sham, I'm in a holding pattern until I get a pillow form in the size I want. I haven't had time to run to JoAnn's and feel more comfortable finishing the project - and even my final vision of it - when the pillow form is in my hands. So it is sitting to the wayside waiting....

What projects are keeping you busy these days?

Whatcha Reading?

On my 36 Things list, item #16 is to read a book a month. I'm marking this down as at least 12 books a year rather than measuring each month by the books I read. Thus far, I'm doing pretty good. In May, I read my book club book of The Dressmaker of Khair Khana and also finished Bossypants (oh Tina Fey, I love you!) and Stories I Only Tell My Friends. Currently, I'm reading my book for TwitBooks, Better by Mistake: The Unexpected Benefits of Being Wrong and Always Looking Up: The Adventures of an Incurable Optimist by Michael J. Fox. And the Kindle has a number of good options waiting in the wings for me to finish these two.... and then there is my guilt pile of paperback books sitting by my bedside table. Yep, lots of books in my future. I'm feeling on target to finish ahead of the minimum of 12!

What have you been reading?

Pinwheeling

Around and around they go, where they stop no one knows... I played around with my squares a bit last night. I think this photo, above, is the final layout minus a few changes to the bottom row. I pieced together some of the fabrics last night. I'm planning to get it all together and then border it with cream fabric. The back of the sham you ask? I'm not too sure but an leaning towards a mix of two or three of these fabrics.

I also did a bit of photo editing to this shot of the man friend and me at an engagement party this weekend. Although that dress is a brilliant coral color, I had to try a little black and white with some Holga action thrown in. And Polaroid to boot!
The party was fun but the whole day with the man friend was even more delightful. Good times!

A Square Existence

I cut out a bunch of squares yesterday to start my patchwork pillow sham to replace one of the ones that came with the couch. Lots of the Denyse Schmidt for JoAnn's fabric waiting to compliment my couch... Now I just need to decide on the layout and get sewing!

I was supposed to go to book club yesterday to discuss The Dressmaker of Khair Khana. Sadly, between 7 different routes to my friend's being shut down due to a bike race in Philly and seeing spots foreshadowing a possible headache while driving there, I didn't end up going. No discussion, lots of "leftover" cupcakes. Gotta figure out what to do with them all! (If only I could send them out over the internet!) By the way, it's an excellent book and I definitely recommend it.

Luckily, time and a short nap on the couch eliminated the traffic issues and spots.... so the day was not a total loss. How was your weekend?

Lots and lots....

of cupcakes. I baked some for book club and another batch for the man friend's birthday. And so much frosting that I needed to make a special trip to the grocery store this morning to get confectioner's sugar to frost the 2nd batch. Yum!

Love on the Sofa

No dirty minds, it's not what you think... I sewed this pillow sham this week, to go on my new couch (#3 on my 36 Things list) which arrived today. I love it. The fabric letters (and house on the back!) are from the DS line for JoAnn's. The rest of the fabric is a plain linen.
The couch came with two pillows that are decidedly not my style (tan and blue stripes). Luckily, they zip open and have pillow forms inside. I'm planning on making a patchwork pillow with the same fabrics plus some others from the line to also go on the couch too.
Bernette and I are so happy to be sewing together. I love summer! I have so much more time for crafting.
